From the Biblical story (Genesis 24) of Abraham's servant who was sent on a journey to Mesopotamia to find a wife for Abraham's son Isaac. This superb, hand-colored, copper engraving shows the discovery of Rebecca at the fountain. Drawn by Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665) first painter to Louis XIII and engraved by Rousselet. Poussin was greatly influenced by Titian and is best known as the decorator of the great Gallery of the Louvre. Minor soiling in margins.
