This report contains 939 pages and 144 illustrations on the George Catlin Indian Gallery in the United States National Museum. Most significantly it includes two great maps. The first, "Indian Territory", is probably the most colorful and desirable map of the territory produced by the General Land Office. This large (32 x 24") map shows the areas allocated to the several Indian tribes. It is heavily annotated with treaty references and other interesting data. The other map (33 x 21") depicts Indian Reservations throughout the United States. There are a number of other smaller maps. The report as a whole is a gold mine of information regarding the Native American. In addition to updating Catlin's work, it provides bibliographical notes for additional information. Original cloth binding. Contents shaken and binding worn. Map of Indian Territory is detached and mint. Map of Indian Reservations is still bound in and has a small binding tear, else fine. Overall very good condition.
