Three fine copper engraved maps: "Karte van de Landengte van Panama"(Map of the Coast of Panama), 12 x 10.5"; Its shows Panama City at the southeast, Chagres at the northwest and Porto-Bello at the northwest. Roads and the Chagres River connect them all. The two smaller city plans fill in the details. "De Stad, Reede, Haven en Rivier van Chagres" (The City, Reef, Harbor and River of Chagres), 6.8 x 10: This shows the city, castles, roads to Panama and Porto-Bello and a note in Dutch "Here landed the English in 1669". "De Stad en haven van Porto-Bello" (The City and Harbor of Porto-Bello), 10 x 6.9". Depicts the Governor's plantation, Castle San Geronimo, Castle de la Gloria and Castle de Todo Herro, as well as roads, soundings, reefs and a compass rose. This early set of detailed maps shows the coastline after Spanish sources. All three maps in mint condition, fine dark impressions.
