Three sheets, unjoined, make up this very large handsome chart of the continent. D'Anville's work was based on astronomical observation and verified reports of exploration. This led him to leave large blank spaces on his maps that other cartographers had filled with fictitious and hearsay material. As such, this finely engraved map has good detail along the coasts and in the north where there were established colonies. The interior regions, particularly in the south, are blank with interesting notations concerning the native inhabitants. The large title cartouche incorporates a woman holding a crucifix converting the natives to Christianity. On very sturdy paper. Minor foxing in margins and light toning along folds, overall very good.
