An uncommon map of the northern half of the continent. The focus of the map is the course of the Amazon River. Typical of Coronelli's strong engraving style the topographical features are very prominent. But most interesting are the many small illustrations of Native American life including several depictions of execution and cannibalism. Dispersed throughout the map are also several indigenous animals, including the incorrectly depicted elephants and lions. The title is contained in a garland cartouche with an empty coat of arms below. The distance scale is encircled in a ribbon that is being tied by a playful sea creature. Map has been trimmed within border at bottom with new paper added and partial facsimile of the lettering at bottom. Still an attractive example of this most unusual map.
