This engraving records the French discovery and naming of Port Royal. It depicts their ships anchored at the mouth of the river and an exploration party in a small boat in the river. The land is filled with turkeys, deer and an Indian village. The villagers were feasting on a small wolf and fled when they saw the explorers. Whereupon the French named the place Wolf's Point. A very fine impression of this important early American engraving. On a full sheet of Latin text.
