Attractive large double hemisphere map based on the Janvier map of the same title, but with different decorations. The map depicts several routes of exploration up to the Russian discoveries in Alaska in 1741. The Pacific northwest is shown by faint engraving to show both the "Mer de l'Ouest" and possible Northwest Passage, as well as the partial shape of Alaska. New Guinea and Tasmania are shown connected to form an oddly shaped Australia. The hemispheres are supported by columns, which are decorated with exotic goods brought back by the explorers. Very clean with a professional repair of top centerfold and later coloring.
