A striking copper engraving depicting the abduction of Europa by Zeus in the form of a bull. Europa was a Phoenician princess, whose beauty inspired the love of Zeus. He went to her in the form of a bull and carried her away to Crete. On their way to the island the princess gave her name to the continent. In this scene Europa is waving farewell to her family and she and the bull are surrounded by winged cherubs.
