From a scarce printed book of hours beautifully illuminated with initials, floral margin panel and two miniature portraits on each side of the vellum sheet. The word miniature having not to do with the size, but the red pigment that was derived from red lead (minimum). These miniatures are the female saints: Maria Magdalena, Margareta, Barbara and Katherina. The book of hours served as a devotional work containing various prayers and meditations appropriate to seasons, months, days of the week, and hours of the day. Slight wear to goldleaf, else excellent condition.
