From a scarce printed book of hours with numerous illuminated initials and designs in red, blue and gold ink on both sides of the vellum sheet. The book of hours served as a devotional work containing various prayers and meditations appropriate to seasons, months, days of the week, and hours of the day. The right margin is fully illuminated with a fine vine and floral design. One side includes a lovely illuminated miniature of the young Virgin Mary at the feet of her mother Anna. The Latin text includes mention of several saints, including Rocko who dedicated his life to the care-taking of plague sufferers. A bit of wear to the goldleaf, else excellent.
