The original travel diary of Lieutenant J.W. Abert who mapped New Mexico for the United States Army. First edition, limited to 3,000 copies. Previously unpublished, Abert's daily field notes of his expedition with the Army Corps of Topographical Engineer's from Fort Leavenworth to Santa Fe and back during 1846-47. Filled with excellent details of the land and its inhabitants and lovely color illustrations from his sketchbook. Edited by John Galvin. Hard-cover in tan cloth, lettered in gilt with vignette on front cover, glassine dj. 116 pages and 2 fold-out maps.
