It depicts CALIFORNIA AS AN ISLAND, prominent Great Lakes, and the Mississippi delta placed too far west. It is decorated with two cartouche, one is capped with a globe revealing the western hemisphere and the other, at the lower left corner, is surrounded with exotic animals, most not native to North America. The most alluring feature of the map are the fanciful depictions wildlife on the land and sea-life and monsters filling the oceans. Ref: McLaughlin #140; Tooley (America) p. 132. A superb impression in fine condition.
