This is the first of Ortelius's maps of the region surrounding Salzburg with the large inset bird's eye view of the city in the lower right quadrant. This plate was used for the editions between 1570 and 1595 and replaced with a much less decorative map for the later editions. It is a superb example of decorative cartography with the map appearing superimposed over the view. Beautifully colored.
