Van de Velde (1611-1693) was a famous Dutch artist whose paintings of ship were considered unparalleled. In 1672 he moved to London to paint exclusively for King Charles II. The scenes include both depict several fine sailing ships. The first shows them under sail, while the second is a harbor scene.
