A lively hand-colored, copper engraving of a sea battle in the Mediterranean. The battle was part of the 80 years of war between the Netherlands and Spain. The scene depicts the large Dutch ships ramming the Spanish galleys, which were powered by scores of oars and crewed by criminals and prisoners. The Dutch were victorious over General Spinola who was an Italian general in the Spanish army.
