Finely printed text from St. Matthew describing the birth of Jesus. In the text is a lovely miniature of Matthew writing the gospel with an angel, looking over his shoulder. Surrounding the text are engraved scenes including a naked woman with Death below her feet, and at bottom the siege of a town. The verso includes another fine miniature with the text from Mark 16 instructing the faithful to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. The engraved scenes on this side include the beheading of John the Baptist and Herod's daughter holding the head on her sword.
