First state of this map of the Americas with "CALIFORNIE ISLE" depicted in the Briggs style with a flat northern coast. The Solomon Islands are also prominently shown, as well as the beginnings of the New Zealand coastline. Two tiny ships sail the seas. Crisp impression. Ref: McLaughlin #85-1. Spot in margin title, map image very fine.
