This map shows Holland, Belgium, the northern part of France and a great deal of Germany in ancient times. The topography is depicted prior to the extensive construction of dikes and waterways that dominate the land in modern times. Notable here is "Flevo Lacus", a good sized lake, central in Holland. This body of water was later known as "Zuyderzee", an open sea connected in the north to the Waddenzee. The region "Batavorum Gens" where the legendary tribe of Batavians reigned is named. A decorative title cartouche is at the upper left surrounded by figures.
