Originally engraved for Ptolemy's Geographia by Giuseppe Rosaccio in 1598, this map includes a large southern continent, no Korean peninsula, the "kite" shaped Japan, and several mythical islands. The engraving is in the Italian style with a stipple engraved sea and is a skillful reduction of Rumold Mercator's map of 1587.
