Very decorative world map based on the Visscher-Berchem map of 1658, but with the addition of the westward stretching coastline of North America, above the ISLAND OF CALIFORNIA. Two astronomical diagrams are placed between the hemispheres. In the corners are scenes of traditional mythology representing the four elements Fire, Air, Water and Earth.

Condition: A
Map has been remargined at top with the border of another map and the lower right corner has been replaced with very skilled facsimile. The joints are perfect and can only be discerned on close examination.
