An early manuscript French Bible leaf written on very thin vellum, made from unborn or newborn calf. This leaf is from the first book of the Maccabees (chapter 12 and 13), one of the so called Apocrypha, books that were not seen as inspired by the Holy Spirit. The scribe has a very neat hand in early Gothic script, but made quite a few mistakes, which he corrected in the margins in red ink. Initials on both sides are decorated in red and blue penwork and the name of the book is also in red and blue letters at the top.
