A circular south-polar projection shows part of South America, Africa, Madagascar and the incomplete coastlines of Antarctica and Australia. The map is surrounded by full color engravings of natives in various scenes and visiting sailors coming ashore. Small title cartouche with Jansson's name indicating this is the second state of the plate.

Centerfold repair, reinforced on verso and a couple of worm tracks filled in top margin. Very attractive old color.
