Very decorative map of the region north of the Sea of Azov. The map is based on the travels of Isaac Massa who visited Moscow in 1600 and thus was in the midst of the turmoil in Russia on the death of Boris Godunov and the assassination of the False Dimitry. The land is fully engraved with forests and wild animals and tiny ships sail in the sea. Three corners of the map are decorated with large cartouches, each flanked with figures depicting the royalty and merchant class. Attractive later color. Paper added to bottom corners, well away from the engraved image.
