The following lots are very early comic strips printed (one side only) on full page sheets. These rarely seen comics were published by the Imagerie Pellerin of France and printed for the American market through Humoristic Publishing Company of St. Louis, Missouri in 1888. The consist of a series of scenes with text below each panel that tells a moral story. They provide a fascinating view of mid-19th century moral views and are sometimes very politically incorrect from a 21st century point of view. Ref: The American Comic Book Catalogue, the Evolutionary Era (London : Mansell, 1990). Each sheet (12 x 15.7”) is printed in full color. Paper is a bit fragile, as they are printed on early newsprint, but all are unblemished with bright colors.

This unusual sheet is a compilation of important event throughout history; Christopher Columbus, Joan d'Arc, and Guttenberg's printing press among them.
