Fine example of Ortelius' bold style. The map covers the countryside along the Somme River including Abbeville, Amiens, Saint Quentin and La Fere (which was obviously a more important city in the sixteenth century than today). Two large and elaborate strapwork cartouches. Based on a map by Jean Surhon. This is the first state of the plate from the French edition of 1598.

Lower margin with some discoloration and a tiny separation of bottom fold. A few manuscript ink notations along Oyse river that do not distract. Overall very fine impression with superb old color.
