History of ancient France complete with a very fine map (18.7 x 15") "Gallia Vetus" by Nicolas Sanson, also dated 1649. The map is beautifully engraved with mountains, rivers and forests and shows ancient regions and place names. It is decorated with two elaborate title cartouches and a distance scale cartouche. Engraved dedication page, left blank, and 96 pages of French text describing the map. Original vellum binding.
