Large folio album with 50 beautifully engraved plates of various plants and flowers and 53 pages of genus data on each plate. Only one of the plates has hand coloring, which is very well done. All on fine hand-laid paper with large watermarks. Missing any pages before plate 1 so we are unsure of the exact title of the work. The text beneath each engraving reads "Painted Engrav'd & Publish'd by J. Miller; Dorset Court…" John Miller (Johannes Sebastian Mueller) was born in Nuremberg and came to England in 1744. He published several botanical books, the best known being Illustrations to the Sexual System of Linnaeus, 1776. This portfolio belonged to Andy Warhol and was sold in the Sotheby's Andy Warhol Collection auction in 1988. Warhol's book plate is on the inside front cover. Includes a copy of the receipt from the auction. A beautiful collection of botanical plates.
