A great allegorical engraving from a quarto edition of this infamous 18th century publication that caused a sensation throughout Europe and popularized the period of Enlightenment. The allegory represents Truth wrapped in a veil, encircled by Reason, Philosophy, Theology and other personifications of sciences, arts and crafts. This version, engraved by C. Boily and based on the original painting by Charles-Nicolas Cochin, is slightly revised from the original composition.
