Two fine steel engraved maps with vignettes and decorative borders. First extends from the Caspian Sea to Lake Balkach and includes three vignettes of Tartars including a fascinating scene of the marriage custom of chasing the bride on horseback. Second covers the region from Tibet through northwestern China to Manchuria. Includes vignettes of the Fortress and Palace of Dalai Lama at Lassa, the Chinese Wall, Leh in Little Thibet and others.

First very good with no centerfold. Second with loss at centerfold affecting title, map very good.
