A handsome map depicting from the South Pole to the Equator with good detail, particularly of the discoveries in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. The map was originally made by the French cartographer Guillaume Delisle (see previous lot) showing the tracks of the explorers and circumnavigators around the southern oceans. The map was copied by the Ottens brothers and updated to include the recent Antarctic explorations of Jean-Baptiste Charles Bouvet de Lozier in 1739. A panel of text (French and German) has been added at right describing those recent explorations along with a small map of Cape of Circumcision. Map size including text is 17.7 x 23.8".
