First published in 1613 by Basilius Besler, a Nuremberg apothecary, under the title of "Hortus Eystettenis," this work is considered one of the great treasures of botanical literature and illustration. This magnificently lavish presentation of almost 1100 plant types produced from the original in the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. Introduction by Klaus Walter Littger and botanical annotations by Wener Dressendorfer. 464 pp, 360 colored plates from the originals, and numerous other illustrations.
